Can't stop thinking....trash

I just can't stop thinking about trash. I know weird, right?

Last week I saw on some TV show I was watching about how a couple decided to go trash free for a year. I can't remember the number exactly but at the end of the year they had under 20 items of trash in a box. I just can't wrap my brain around how I could do that, but it does have me thinking about things.

There are probably so many more things my family could recycle then what we really do and I am trying to be more aware of those things, but how do I get my husband and children on the same page as me? My children don't really think about those things that can be recycled and just toss it in the garbage.

So I have set out a goal of teaching them about all the things that can be recycled instead of throwing it in the trash.

I know I will still have a lot of trash but at least it will be a start.

rainbow cupcakes

In my attempt at finding fun things to do with the boys this summer I discovered a recipe to make rainbow cupcakes.

We started out with a box of vanilla cake mix and then separated into 6 bowls.

Then we added drops of food coloring to make the different colors of the rainbow.

Next I layered the colors into the cupcake pan.

This is what came out of the oven.
They actually took on a more tye dye look but they were still yummy to eat! :)
*Idea came from March's Family Fun magazine.

Fry Cook

This morning I had a special helper while I made breakfast for the boys and myself.

Reed: I'm a Fry Cook
Me: What does that mean?
Reed: That means I can cook anything for you.

So cute out of the mouths of babes.
Reed age 5.

Father's Day 2010

Eric wanted to go to Gandar Mountain today so we got up and said goodbye to my parents who have spent the past week here.
I made egg sandwiches for breakfast.
Then Eric headed out to mow. Once he got to the backyard the boys went out to assist.

Tyler helped to mow some of the backyard. He didn't last very long but gave Eric a little bit of a break.

Reed helped with scooping the pool.

After all the outside chores were done we headed to Gandar Mountain. We didn't make a purchase but it was neat looking at all the different items for sale there. We had lunch at Applebe's and then went to Lowes for a small purchase. We ended our outing with a trip to Wal-Mart where the boys got fishing poles for our upcoming trip and I did some grocery shopping.

It was a pleasant Father's Day and once we got back home Eric laid around and rested in bed watching TV.

storytime

Every Tuesday morning for the summer Reed participates in storytime at the public library.
This week's theme was beach. Here is his crab hat.
Think he is happy about it?
