Interesting things you learn about your children...

So yesterday I took the boys to the grocery store with me, not something I do often. (Taking the boys with me to the grocery store that is, not going to the grocery store.) We always end up with more in the cart then what I had planned, but oh well their little personalities do come out.
So we were back in the meat section and sitting on the ledge was a box of Slim Jim's.
Reed: Oo, oo, can I have that?
Me: You like those?
Reed: Yes!
Me: How do you know?
Reed: Christopher gave me one at baseball?
Me: Oh? Well that one is really big.
And we continue shoppng.
We are standing in line waiting to check out and he has a box of 4 small Slim Jims.
Reed: Mom, can I have this?
Me: I guess.
Driving home he has them in his hand because he never let the bagger bag them.
Reed: Mom, can I eat these?
Me: After lunch you can have one.
Well, he forgot about it after lunch, but after dinner he saw them and got one out to eat with dinner.

The little cross necklace was from the gum ball type machines at check out at the grocery store! I used to always have to get something from those machines too when I went shopping with my mom. :0)

storytime

Every Tuesday morning for the summer Reed participates in storytime at the public library.
This week's theme was beach. Here is his crab hat.
Think he is happy about it?

Reed is 5!

I don't think there is anything in the world Reed wanted more then to be 5.

He wanted a Hot Wheels cake.
What an ordeal it was to get him a cake.
Our normal cake baker was going to be out of town.
Off to the Nestle Toll House Cookie store only to find out they have gone out of business.
We decided on a Publix cake less then 24 hours before his birthday.
Thankfully they were able to do it!

It was a great little celebration surrounded by those that love him.
Granny,
Pappy,
Mom,
Dad,
Tyler,
Brian, &
Maryelise.

Making his wish!

Recieving a DS Lite so now Tyler and him can verse.

Cuteness

This past Sunday Eric and I cleaned the garage (Yea, I know fun times!). Above his work/tool bench we added a shelf a couple of years ago to help store some of the Rubbermaid totes that were sitting on the floor. We put the ones up there that held clothes left over from our older son for our younger son as he grew into them. I honestly thought that I had gotten all of the clothes down that were in Reed's current size. Well apparently I was wrong. I found 2 tubs full of clothes that he can fit into now! YIKES!

One of the things that I discovered was that he now has a ton and I mean a ton of "new" pajamas to choose from. I picked out 2 tonight and he said one more and picked out these.

So we put them on and had quite the conversation.
R: So these have slippers on them?
M: Kind of but they are attached and you can't take them off.
R: I want to see my feet.
M: OK, after I take a picture.
R: Take the picture now.
M: You need to show Daddy and brother first and then I will get my camera.
So he proceeds to walk out into the living room where Daddy and brother are and not one single comment from either one. What is up with that??? I thought he was so darn cute.
I got my camera and had to put my camera card in and told him to go stand by the front door. I took one picture and he started unzipping and off they came. Back to select different pajamas for tonight. He ended up in pajamas with sports balls all over and of course he could see his feet. :0)

These particular pj's were not his older brother's but were passed to me from a former student. Maybe if we go to Maryland for Christmas they will still fit him and we may get some use out of them. Then we can leave them there for one of my parent's neighbors who has a son who is a year and can grow into them.

Sick or not? That is the question

You be the judge...
The front office staff buzzes into my classroom today with the announcement that I need to call daycare. My 2nd graders are in the middle of taking a unit language assessment. I give directions for the next section and go stand in the corner and call daycare. The message I receive is that Reed just vomited. OK, next on my call list is Eric. Give directions for the next section of the assessment. Call Eric tell him and he says he will be there to get him within the hour. Since I took off yesterday for Tyler being sick. Give directions to the next section of the assessment. Call daycare back and tell them Eric will be there to get him. Finish giving assessment to my students.
I end up staying at work until 5:15 getting lesson plans done and my classroom set up for teaching tomorrow just in case I am not able to be there.
When I get home Reed is sound asleep on Eric, no more vomiting, no fever, just sleeping. Hmmm...
Cook dinner he decides he doesn't want dinner, OK.
After dinner Tyler plays the Wii and Reed goes into the bedroom to watch Tom and Jerry. I go in with camera in hand...this is how I find him.
Then the poses for the camera start. Here they are...
Before bed the boys always have a snack. Reed wants Cheetos...OK...lets give it a try, oh and he wanted apple juice. He sits on the couch drinks the apple juice and the open bag of snack size Cheetos sits on the couch.
Get the boys in bed and look over at the couch...Cheetos bag still sitting there. I close up the bag and put them in the pantry.
Go in to check on him to see if he is warm and take his temp. Normal temp.
Right now it is about an hour later and he is sound asleep. I am thinking if he sleeps through the night that I am going to work.
What do you think I should do? You know I always have the guilty mom syndrome going on. Work or stay home. I am a teacher and it really is a pain in the rump to get ready for a sub, but then again I am prepared just in case. Just always second guess my choices.

Cell phone

Last Tuesday morning as I am getting ready for work I hear Reed yell from the bathroom, "Mama, I have your phone!" OK was my reply then I heard it drop...he was in the bathroom...

I go running in there and find my cell phone at the bottom of the toilet bowl...not a happy mama. I fish it out and tell Reed how sad I am. He put himself in time out in his room. :(

Off came the back cover...out came the battery...the phone is open...and it lays on a towel on my bed while I go off to work. Prayers being said that it will be just fine when it dries out.

Come home from work and but the battery and back on and it doesn't do anything...so it lays out to dry more.

Next morning it turns on...and rings that I have voice mail. I call the voice mail. I am trying to put it on speaker phone so I can listen to it while I finish getting ready for work. Speaker phone button is now the number 7 and the voice mails get deleted! ACK! I put it in my purse and try it again after work. Still working wonky. Finally Thursday I am able to dial out but the number 6 is working weird and is being stubborn. A little while later can't do anything with the phone.

So I went to Radio Shack Thursday afternoon to get a new phone but the girl wasn't really interested in helping me. So I left.

Friday I decided to stop at the Sprint store. Guy in there told me the cheapest phone he could get for me was $155. I told him thanks but no thanks and left.

Today mom and I took the boys and went to the mall. I saw another Radio Shack store and decided to see if they had anything better than the Sprint store. The sales lady in there was very helpful (unlike the other store I went to) and told me they had refurbished phones. She starts telling me the prices and they are all in the $200 price range and my heart is sinking. Then she gets to this pink phone and says it is $80. OK, that is the best price I have heard and it sounds good to me. As I am thinking the price is better I am thinking I am so not a pink person and this phone looks like a 13 or 14 year old should be carrying it. I understand that some people love pink and would jump at the chance to get this phone, but was wishing I had a different color choice. Nope!

So I am now the proud owner of a "Barbie" pink phone, as my lovely dh refers to it. It is growing on me and I am sure soon I will not want to part with it. It has a camera on it too, which I was very excited about!

Now to transfer all my numbers over...thank goodness it is spring break this week!

Day 5 Project 365

Can you see it?

What is he pointing to?

I know that it is hard to see and I used the focal black and white option in Picasa to help you see it. I don't think it worked very well, but it is there.

Reed made a pinecone bird feeder at daycare today. As soon as we got home we unloaded the things from the car and came right back outside to hang it in the tree. Now all we do is wait for the birds to find it and enjoy the seeds.

Day 3 Project 365

This evening I went with a friend as a guest to the gym that she belongs to. When I got home Eric had already put both of the kids to bed. They typically play with something quiet in their beds before it is time for lights out. Tonight I found both boys playing with some type of electronic game. I am just amazed with how different their lives are compared to my childhood. When I was a young girl I laid in bed most nights watching the numbers on my digital clock change. At one point I did have a Little Professor,
but most nights it was lights out and I laid in bed and watched those red numbers on my clock. Oh and I remember the occasional time that I would sneak my flash light in my room and read under the covers. How times have changed...just makes me wonder what my future grandchildren will be doing before they go to sleep.

I know this is more than one picture but I am hoping to be able to somehow reduce these pictures and put them side by side on a 4X6 photo to be included in the Project 365 kit that I am hoping to be able to purchase someday soon.
