New Year's Project

I have dreamed of having a fire pit for quite some time now and my wonderful husband finally made it a reality for me. :)
He started New Year's Eve off with making a list and going to Lowe's to buy some things to do around the house and my fire pit was one of them.

He had watched a video online but we kind of did our own thing in the long run.
First we laid out the brick and decided how big the fire ring needed to be, marked it off with some spray paint and took the bricks away.
We dug up the grass and laid sand down on the dirt.

Put the bricks back where they were to begin with and find out we made it one brick short, oh well we weren't changing it now.

Then the gravel went in, here the boys are smoothing them out.

Later that night we had our first fire and burned the old wood from the swingset.
Of course we had smores too. :o)

Happy New Year! May 2011 bring nothing but happiness to your life!

Coming soon will be my one small word that I have chosen for the year. :)

pot holder

I have been looking for simple sewing projects that I can make.
I came across a pot holder sewing project that I thought I would give it a go.
I didn't follow the directions exactly and found where I made my mistakes so next time things will be even better. :O}

All ready for sewing...

flip it to the right side

put a pencil in to poke out the corners
 make the holder
sew the holder on
 sewing the square spiral
finished product...not quite square but I am happy with my first attempt
close up of square spiral, white would have been more defined, but who wants to really see imperfections? ;O}

You Capture-Holiday favorites

Our annual reindeer pics with the boys.

These were not the easiest this year as we had tears from both boys at one point or another.

This was the excitement of getting Criss, Cross Crash and then realizing there was a car in the box too.
We were pet sitting for my nephew and had his 10 month old puppy with us Christmas morning.  I knew that he couldn't be inside while opening gifts and would be chewing on everything.  As I was sitting on the floor taking pictures of our boys opening gifts I saw Bubba and just had to snap a picture.  Turns out it is one of my favorites from Christmas morning.  I love how the lights from the tree are relecting in the window and the "no peeking!" bag and a little glimpse of our tree.

$1.36

This morning my parents left to head back to Maryland. After the boys and I dropped them off at the airport we stopped at Goodwill on the way home. I love thrift shopping just never know what treasures will be found. ;o}

Today's treasures were a pair of Levi's for my son for $0.99 and a serving fork for $0.29.
The serving fork is Oneida.
I decided after hosting 2 dinners this holiday break that I need some serving utensils. I have plastic and wooden spoons for serving and they are bulky. Today I scored my first serving fork! Yea me! :o}

Off to the washing machine for the jeans and dishwasher for the fork.

Have you found any good thrift finds lately?

I am on the lookout for a serving tray that I can alter to my hearts desire. Found some this morning but not what I have in my vision so I will keep searching.

Birthday

The love of my life turned 40 this past Sunday, yes the day after Christmas.

We celebrated with my parents, my nephew and his fiance, and the boys and I. It was a nice quiet evening.
Eric doesn't like anything being done for his birthday which makes me sad, but it isn't my day so I really shouldn't complain.
Birthdays were a big deal in my family growing up but I guess if you are lucky enough or not lucky {which ever way you want to look at it} to have a birthday so close to Christmas you may not think too much about your birthday.
Our little one was so excited when his dad blew out the candles.

Happy Birthday honey! I hope you enjoyed your little party and the gifts. XOXO
